Toronto’s media and technology communities came together on March 6, 2026, for the First Fridays Toronto – Media & AI Edition, an evening of conversation focused on the evolving relationship between artificial intelligence, journalism, and Black storytelling.
The event brought together journalists, entrepreneurs, technologists, and creative professionals to examine how new digital tools are influencing the way news is produced and how stories are told.
Veteran journalists Donovan Vincent of the Toronto Star and Shari Keen of The Globe and Mail led discussions on the growing presence of artificial intelligence in modern newsrooms. Their remarks explored the ethical implications of AI-assisted reporting, the importance of maintaining editorial integrity, and the need for inclusive data and perspectives when developing AI-driven media tools.
Entrepreneur and broadcaster Moses A. Mawa, CEO of Afroglobal Television, reflected on the evolution of Black-owned media organizations as Afroglobal marks its 30th anniversary. Mawa emphasized the importance of adapting to digital transformation while continuing to serve communities through culturally relevant programming.
Adding a technological perspective, Perry Douglas, CEO of 6ai Technologies, discussed how AI models and automation are beginning to influence creative production, media distribution, and audience engagement.
